Holiday Social/Print Exchange

The party will be Thursday, December 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The address is 7783 Kingsview Lane North, Maple Grove, 55311. Email kathyhara76@gmail.com to let her know if you are attending and if you will be bringing your spouse or a guest.

Since everyone seems to like the format of our previous gatherings, we’re going to keep it the same. Here is what to bring:
1. An hors d’oeuvres or dessert of your choice to share.
2. Consider bringing wine. Kathy will provide non-alcoholic beverages.
3. One of your own photos that has been printed, matted and gift wrapped to put under the tree for our gift exchange! Suggested size is an 8×10 in an 11×14 mat, or smaller.

Directions: Go north on 494 or 169, then west on 94 (toward St. Cloud). Take the Weaver Lake Rd. exit and go left onto Weaver Lake Rd. Continue through the light at EAST Fish Lake Rd., then turn left at the light on WEST Fish Lake Rd., which is less than ½ mile from the exit ramp (Boston Scientific is on the right). Go two blocks and turn left on 79th Place N., then make an immediate right onto Kingsview Lane. Follow Kingsview to the top of the hill. The house is on the right, the green house with three brown garage doors, address 7783.

Program: “Designing and producing award winning photography for advertising”

Bill Zabowski:  Freelance art Director/Graphic designer.

Bill is a graduate of The Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a former Creative Director/ Art Director of Martin/Williams Advertising, Minneapolis MN.

He spent the first part of his career helping M/W grow from a creative boutique to a 300 person agency of national and international reputation.

Since starting his own creative consulting business 15 years ago, Zabowski & Co.,  he has worked with many clients big and small, who appreciate the wealth of talent, experience, speed, teamwork and production knowledge he brings to the table.

He is very strategically orientated and works in all mediums including print, television, video, direct response, direct mail, and the web.

He has created award-winning national advertising for many clients, including 3M Post-it Brand Notes and Target Stores.

Program: “Road Trip!” by Rikk Flohr – http://www.fleetingglimpse.com/

Rikk gave himself an assignment of sorts in September when he was scheduled to attend a wedding in Las Vegas.  He decided to drive there and take the long-slow way back.  The road trip that ensued lasted more than two weeks and covered a number of well known and lesser known national parks in the Western states of Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.  It ended with images Rikk took on the last leg of his trip in Austin Texas before driving back to Minnesota.

Rikk decided to take images from the same location as a tourist might at the parks, but to do so when the the light and conditions favored creating better images than the casual tourist might produce.  He is going to present images from this “road trip” to the club along with some of the stories he accumulated from persons he met along the way.  The stories and images may include photo shoots with models he met through Model Mayhem together with back stories about how these photo shoots were arranged.

Rikk Flohr is a professional photographer who also conducts workshops in Costa Rica and the south Dakota badlands.  He also teaches courses throughout the entire US on Adobe Lightroom.  He is currently preparing courses in Lightroom he intends to offer here in the twin cities at a substantial discount to camera club members.  Three club members recently attended his May badlands seminar and it was a great success.  One of our members is signed up for the December badlands seminar and there is only one space left for that on a first come basis.

Digital Salon: “Letters of the Alphabet” — Be creative. Photograph literal or non-literal objects or shapes that create a letter or letters of an alphabet.

Judge: Vijay Karai

Vijay was born in Bangalore, India in a rather large family. Last of 14 siblings, his interest in Photography developed when he was young. His primary interest was in Black and white photography which he practiced in the wet darkroom for many years, before converting to a digital darkroom. Being a self taught artist he has practiced other genres such as painting and Batik, but he has devoted over thirty years to the study and practice of photography.

While in India, Vijay had lived in Bangalore where he was exposed to several photographic masters. Later after completing college, he has lived in a farm in a village that taught him the simplicity of life. When he immigrated to the USA in 1982, he took to photography with a gusto and soon excelled in photo clubs and International Photo Exhibitions. He currently works in the IT industry, but spends almost all his free time either photographing or engaging in Photographic endeavors. He regularly teaches a Photography class in Blaine, Minnesota where he has lived for over 25 years. He judges local and international exhibitions as well as county fairs. His images are widely published in calendars and catalogs. He has had several exhibitions including at the Blaine City Hall.

As an avid runner he has run several marathons and clearly understands the power of training and practice. He employs the same single minded devotion to photography.
